Mission Hospital Laguna Beach Limited Visitor Policy
According to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), as of August 11, 2021, all hospital visitors must either show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or present documentation of a negative SARS-CoV-2 test within the last 72 hours. Acceptable forms of proof of vaccination include: (present one of the following)
- COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card, or
- Photo of COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card (photo or image can be presented on an electronic device), or
- Medical documentation of COVID-19 vaccination from a health care provider, or
- A digital record that includes a QR code that displays name, date of birth, vaccine dates and type.
If a visitor has not been fully vaccinated, they must present documentation of a negative SARS- CoV-2 test where the specimen collection occurred no more than 72 hours before visit and for which the test results are available at the time of entry. Results may be from a PCR or antigen test.
Most patients are permitted to have one visitor at a time. In situations where social distancing is not possible due to room size or the number of patients in the room, it is possible the number of visitors may be reduced. Nursing leadership on each unit will make this determination.
Visiting hours in the intensive care unit are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visiting hours in all other units are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
In special cases, visitors may be temporarily exempt from the vaccine and testing requirements (but must comply with all infection prevention measures, including masking and social distancing). Special cases include:
- Visitors for a patient in critical condition when death may be imminent.
- In emergent situations, parent or guardian visitors of pediatric patients, a support person for a labor and delivery patient, and support persons for a patient with physical, intellectual, developmental disability, or cognitive impairment are considered visitors who are visiting a patient in critical condition.
- For subsequent visits following the emergent situation and as soon as reasonably possible, these visitors must comply with the vaccine verification or applicable testing requirements within 72 hours.
Visitors will be screened and provided with a visitor management badge that indicates they are cleared to visit. After screening, visitors must go directly to the nurse’s station nearest to the patient’s room. Visitors must remain in the patient’s room, unless they are walking to the cafeteria or restroom, and may not gather in any hospital waiting area or hallway. After being screened, visitors are welcome in our Gift Shop.
All visitors, regardless of vaccination status or test result, must be over the age of 18 and wear a hospital-provided mask at all times. The following masks are not permitted: plain cloth masks, gators, bandanas and masks with external valves or vents.
Visitors who do not follow our universal masking policy will be given one warning and asked to wear their mask. If they are not compliant, they may lose the privilege to be in the hospital and can be asked to leave for the day. If needed for extreme cases, security can be asked to escort the person from the hospital.
Visitors are not allowed for adult patients who are COVID-19 positive or suspected of having COVID-19.
Patients may not have visitors in any of our preoperative/PACU/procedural areas. We ask that visitors wait outside the hospital for loved ones who are in surgery, preparing for surgery or recovering.
Our cafeterias are open to the public. Visitors may purchase food and beverages, but we strongly encourage visitors to eat in the patient room (if allowed by the unit) and not in the cafeteria. No eating is permitted in ICU patient rooms or any patient room during procedures.
